All the things we discussed about Jerusalem is about its religion, political, and It is stereotypical image of Jerusalem. However, finishing looked through the websites’ link, it provided a new image of Jerusalem for me. It is about life. I couldn’t say I totally had changed my mind about Jerusalem, but at least there is new perspective coming up.
I am enjoying like the blogger of the Jerusalem Open House. One of blog’s name is “Ani lo mdeberet ivrit!”. To be honest, I don’t know what it is, but the attitude of the blog is optimistic. Especially, in the blogger, it talked about a person named Jay. He said that “the Scripture supports the acceptance of gay people.” This viewpoint is interesting, so I think I would try to borrow the book, God vs. Gay? to read. What’s more, it discussed about The Wizard of Oz in the topic of gay icon. I think it might create a new memory of my childhood.
With knowing a number of organizations supporting for LGBTQ people, and try to help them, it is expressive. As I know, religion doesn’t admit the relationship between people of same gender. However, I don’t know very much. All the things I heard about is from my friend. In this way, I really want to know more about it.
I was also curious about the book God vs. Gay! Just the title alone emphasizes the two are enemies. As I read the summary and excerpts online, it was a relief to see the author brilliantly diffuse this black and white argument that is so often thrown around.
ReplyDeleteQing,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post. If you do end up reading that book, please bring it up in class. From my perspective on religion, while sexuality is a very important topic among religious circles, showing people love and respect is also important. I would be interested in hearing how the author of that addresses that.
